Salta Province in NW Argentina is the only place on earth where you can consistently catch large freshwater dorado (Salminus maxilosus) on small, clear streams.Parque Nacional del Rey in Salta is located in the transition zone between the high altitude Andes range and the Yunga, an extension of the Amazon watershed. The home waters, the Rio Tucanes, is a tributary of a tributary of the Parana River basin. The new Dorado Lodge is located on a 20,000 acre private ranch with exclusive access to the best section of Rio Tucanes, adjacent to the border of a National Park, and is a great sanctuary for wildlife, including the fabled Golden Dorado. The private stretch of river is 19 km long and only 30’ to 60’ wide. It is protected within a jungle (yunga) canyon and there is little or no wind, making it very easy to fly fish. From the Lodge you also have access to the Juramento River. This fantastic river was tamed after the building of a hydroelectric dam in 1973. Dorado migrated from the Parana River basin and created what is the only clear tailwater river with “L” size Dorado (up to 40 lbs). The Juramento averages 100 feet wide but you rarely cast longer than 50 feet.

Patagonia Fishing Hosts are based in the small town of Cholila, located in the Chubut Province of central Patagonia, the southernmost part of Argentina, and operate out of the convenient and comfortable Carrileufu Valley Lodge. From Cholila you quickly access the best lakes and rivers for fly-fishing, in areas where you will see lots of fish and wildlife, but very few people besides your fishing group. Cholila has a romantic history. Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid escaped the U.S. law enforcement by living here for years in the early 1900s - until their ill-gotten money started running low and they had to return to "work," robbing more banks. Big browns and rainbows, with brook trout and landlocked Atlantic salmon also available. Wading and drift boat fishing from large rubber rafts.

Most of our clients that travel to Argentina elect to spend some time in this amazing city - be it a single night or several days. We always recommend that anglers stay at least one night in the city before traveling to their final fishing destination within Argentina. Buenos Aires is a beautiful, European-style city, with wonderful attraction and plenty to see and do. It is famous for Tango dancing, museums, great steak houses, and exciting nightlife. If you are flying all the way to Argentina, then do yourself a favor and spend some time in Buenos Aires at either the front end or the back end of your trip.

Chime Lodge is located on the banks of the world-famous Chimehuin River. This is a new lodge of recent construction that is located in the middle of one of the most beautiful areas in all of Patagonia. There are four double occupancy rooms, a main dining room, and a large, open area perfect for relaxing and socializing. Not only is this one of the better lodge values in all of Patagonia, but the diversity of fishing found in this particular region is probably the greatest attribute to Chime's location. While the lodge's home water is the Chimehuin River, they also fish the Alumine, Malleo, Calefu, and Collon Cura Rivers. Chime also offers overnight and multi-day camping trips on the Chimehuin and Alumine Rivers, and we can easily arrange for a camping and lodge combo itinerary

On the remote, 45,000-acre Maria Luisa Ranch in the far southern reaches of Argentina and Tierra Del Fuego sits Far Ends Rivers Lodge and the amazing Irigoyen River. This small, one-of-a-kind fishing operation offers the opportunity to fish single-handed rods on smaller waters that are both protected and private. (All things that are unusual for Tierra Del Fuego!) The Irigoyen and Malenguena - the primary fishing waters at Far End - are naturally protected by both mountains and forest. For this reason, fisherman can use lighter equipment and a number of different techniques to target the sea-run brown trout from November through mid-April.

When most fishermen think of Argentina, they typically conjure up images of the country’s incredible trout fishing. What they don’t always think of is the Golden Dorado fishing and wing shooting that takes place in the northern areas of Argentina. For that reason, Yellow Dog is proud to team with Fly Fishing Patagonia to offer what may be the cast-and-blast trip of a lifetime! Catching a Golden Dorado on the fly is an incredibly visual experience, as these large, voracious fish will often leap six or seven times during a battle. With a customized package, you can also combine Dorado fishing with the region’s world-famous wing shooting for ducks, dove and perdiz. Accommodations for these packages are in a beautiful Spanish-Colonial estancia on the banks of the Corriente River, just north of the city of Esquina. Guests stay in elegant, European-designed rooms, and all meals are served in traditional Argentine fashion with fantastic wines from Mendoza.

Rio Manso Lodge is located in the heart of Argentina's Nahuel Huapi National Park on the banks of Lake Hess and the Rio Manso itself. In an area that seems both wild and incredibly remote, the lodge is actually only 90 minutes away from the city of Bariloche, making it very easy to access on a regular and direct basis. When fishing out of the lodge, guests have access to such diverse fisheries as the Rio Manso, Quieto, Pichi Leufu, and numerous area lakes. Each of the lodge’s eight rooms faces northwest, offering spectacular views of Lago Hess and the nearby Andes Mountains. The main living room and sitting area in the lodge (complete with a huge river stone fireplace) is where cocktails and hor d’oeuvres are served each evening.
